![]() 8 on the Facebook page Redding Crime 2.0, denying rumors that Keith had "'lawyered up'" and noting that Sherri's husband had cooperated fully with the investigation. "Unfortunately, there are random, ignorant people on the internet that are casting aspersions on both Sherri and Keith," self-identified family member Rod Rodriguez III wrote Nov. Within days, authorities received more than 200 tips. Naturally, the Internet insisted it knew what really happened-Keith totally had something to do with it, Sherri abandoned her family, etc.-as the usual spots where true crime conspiracies are hatched, such as Reddit, lit up with theories. "On normal days, I would open the door and my family comes, runs and give me a hug," he later told KRCR-TV. Returning to an empty house and soon finding out the kids hadn't been picked up, Keith used a phone-finder app to trace Sherri's cell-and he found it near the intersection of Old Oregon Trail and Sunrise Drive, about a mile away from their home, along with her earbuds, a few strands of blonde hair tangled amid the wires. Not having his personal phone at work with him, he didn't text back until 1:39 p.m. 2, a Wednesday, asking if he was coming home for lunch. Keith said that he had received a text message from Sherri at 10:37 a.m. True Crime Documentaries Worth Watching This Spring The missing-person case in the Northern California city of Redding had quickly become a national story, the mystery of what happened to the 34-year-old " supermom," as her sister-in-law Suzanne Papini described her, proving hot grist for the true crime headline mill.Ī $50,000 reward was offered for any information leading to Sherri's whereabouts. "She could drop her phone," Keith said, "but she would never, in a million years, not pick up our children on the time that she normally would've." He first realized something was seriously wrong when she failed to pick up their kids, then-4-year-old son Tyler and 2-year-old daughter Violet, from daycare. 6, 2016, four days after his wife, Sherri Papini, went out for an afternoon jog and didn't come home. So Keith Papini told ABC News' Good Morning America on Nov. I don't understand how it would work in practicality though."Everybody who knows my wife knows that there's no reason for her to leave. She was definitely taken against her will." It's just so interesting since I've heard these two things since she first went missing, not just after the story came out. I should mention I've heard the rumor that SP has lied about her age from multiple people she went to high school with and that she's compulsively lied for years. A good amount of older people around here believe the story, but people around SP's age group don't seem to. When she was found and the 20/20 episode came out, even more people were skeptical. I've heard these two rumors though since the beginning, with people justifying that she was probably lying about her abduction too. She really has a reputation of being unstable and lying a lot - I mean for this many people in town not to believe you from the start, I would think you'd have to lie to a lot people. But even while Sherri was missing, people were so skeptical of the story. I thought at first that Sherri had been abducted, and that Tera and her case were somehow connected. I never knew her but lived close to her growing up and it really affected me at that age. While she was missing I followed the case because it reminded me so much of Tera Smith's disappearance, a girl who went missing in Redding in the 90s. Most people in a Redding think it is a hoax, even people in Bethel seem to. How could Keith not see either of these things when getting married? Is it really possible to hide your answers from the other person - I wouldn't think so but maybe? Curious if anyone could explain how this rumor would be true in that regard.Įdited to elaborate a little bit on these rumors. It asks you on your marriage license if you have ever been married before and of course your birthday. Who knows if either is true - I'm certainly not saying they are - but here is my question surrounding it's validity. By far these are the most popular rumors I've heard, which is why I think it's interesting that a previous poster brought this up. My mom says she heard this from SP's neighbors, who are close to Keith, along with other people saying this stuff. Apparently Bethel is quite the rumor mill and the Papinis knew a lot of people there? There's rumors going around of KP not knowing SP was married before their marriage (and that she pretended to be a virgin) and also that SP lied to KP about her age at first but that he found out last year (rumor is that she had said that she skipped 2 grades or something and pretended she was younger since grade school to him). I live near Redding and my parents live in Redding and attend Bethel Church. I lurk around here and wanted to join the discussion since I've heard some rumors like the ones that have been brought up.
